How to claim a business that's already listed

If you went looking for your business and found it already in our directory, you're not alone, and there's nothing to worry about. Here's why it happened, and how to take ownership.

If you went to register your business and discovered it's already in our directory, you're not alone, and there's nothing to worry about. Here's why it's there and how to take ownership.

Why your business is already in the directory

When we rebuilt oranit.community in early 2026, we wanted residents to land in a directory that's actually useful from day one — not a blank page with three businesses. So we seeded it with local businesses and professionals from publicly available sources, plus contacts familiar to us through our community work over the years. Everything was refreshed and verified in early 2026, so the information is current — not legacy data from the original 2012 platform.

If your business is in the directory, it's because you're known in Oranit. That's a good thing.

What an unclaimed listing looks like

Unclaimed listings are clearly marked with an "Unclaimed" banner on the business profile. The banner invites the actual owner to come forward and take ownership. Until that happens, the listing is informational only: visitors can see your details and contact you, but no one can edit the listing or post on your behalf.

How to claim your listing

  1. Sign in (or create an account if you don't have one yet).
  2. Go to /add-business from your profile menu.
  3. In the search box at the top of the page, start typing your business name. Matching unclaimed listings appear inline.
  4. Click "Claim this business" on your listing in the results.

What happens next

One of two things, depending on the email address on your account:

  • Auto-claim (instant). If the email address on your account matches the business's contact email or website domain — and you're not on a free-mail provider like Gmail or Yahoo — your claim is verified automatically. You're granted ownership immediately, you're redirected to /my-business, and you can start editing right away.
  • Admin review (1–2 business days). If the domain doesn't match, or if you're on a free-mail provider, your claim is submitted to our moderation queue. You'll see an inline confirmation: "Your claim has been registered and will be reviewed." A real person at oranit.community reviews each pending claim, usually within one or two business days. You'll receive an email when we've made a decision.

While your claim is pending

The listing stays exactly as it is. No one — including you — can edit anything until the claim is approved. This is deliberate: it protects business owners from anyone falsely claiming a listing, and it protects the community from misinformation.

Once approved

You'll get full edit access. You can update any of the user-editable fields (name, description, contact details, hours, photos, social links, and more), upgrade to a paid plan if you'd like, and post deals if you have an Extended plan.

If your claim is rejected

If our team can't verify your ownership from the information available, the claim is rejected and you'll receive an email explaining the decision. If you believe this was a mistake or you have additional information, please reach out via the contact page and we'll take another look.

If you don't want to be listed at all

If you'd prefer not to appear in our directory, write to us via the contact page and we'll remove your listing. No questions asked, no friction. It's your business, your choice.

If something is wrong with your listing right now

Write to us via /contact. We'll fix the most urgent errors (wrong phone number, wrong category, closed business) even before the listing is claimed.
