Common issues and quick fixes

Most platform problems are common ones with quick fixes. Sign-in trouble, payment failures, photo uploads, and the rest, here's what to try first.

If something on oranit.community isn't working the way you expect, the issue is usually one of the ones below. Try the matching fix first, it solves most problems within a minute or two.

I can't sign in

The most common cause is a forgotten password. Three things to try, in order:

  • Use magic link or SMS instead. On the sign-in page, click "Sign in with email link" or "Sign in with SMS." Both work without a password and get you in within a minute. (If you're unsure how, see the article on signing in.)
  • Reset your password. Click "Forgot password?" on the sign-in page. We email you a reset link that's valid for 30 minutes.
  • Check the email you used. If you signed up with a work email and you're trying with a personal one (or vice versa), the system won't recognize it. The platform doesn't merge accounts; one email = one account.

If none of those work, write to us and we'll help you regain access.

I'm not getting the verification code (SMS or email)

  • For email: check your spam or promotions folder. Verification emails sometimes land there. Mark them as "not spam" so future ones come through cleanly.
  • For SMS: wait 30 seconds, then request another. We rate-limit how often we send to prevent abuse, so back-to-back requests within seconds may not all go through.
  • If your phone number changed and you no longer have access to the old one, write to us. We can verify you another way and update the number on your account.

My payment failed

Most of the time, this is the bank flagging the transaction as suspicious because it's a new merchant for them. Two fixes:

  • Try again immediately. Sometimes the second attempt clears because the bank sees the same merchant twice.
  • Call your bank or use the bank app to approve us. Most banks let you mark a merchant as trusted, after that, payments to us go through cleanly.

If the payment continues to fail with a different card too, the issue is on our side. Write to us with the timestamp of the attempt and we'll look at the payment processor logs.

My photos aren't uploading

The usual culprits, in order of likelihood:

  • The file is too large. We accept photos up to 8 MB each. Most modern phone cameras produce files in the 3-5 MB range, so this is usually fine, but very high-resolution images (like RAW files from a DSLR) need to be resized first.
  • The format isn't supported. We accept JPG, PNG, and WebP. HEIC (the default on newer iPhones) sometimes uploads, sometimes doesn't, depending on your browser. If you're on an iPhone and HEIC won't upload, change your camera setting to "Most Compatible" so it produces JPG instead.
  • Your connection dropped mid-upload. If you're on a marginal Wi-Fi or mobile signal, retry on a stable connection.
  • Your browser is out of date. Older versions of Safari and Chrome have known photo-upload bugs. Updating the browser fixes them.

The site looks broken (layout, missing content, weird behavior)

  • Hard refresh. On Mac/Linux: Cmd+Shift+R or Ctrl+Shift+R. On Windows: Ctrl+F5. This forces the browser to reload everything fresh and fixes 90% of "looks broken" problems.
  • Clear your browser cache if hard refresh doesn't help. The platform updates frequently; an old cached version sometimes gets stuck.
  • Try a different browser to see if the issue is browser-specific. If Chrome shows the problem but Firefox doesn't, it's a Chrome cache or extension issue. If both show it, it's our problem and we want to know.

My listing was approved but it's not showing up

Approved listings can take a few minutes to appear in the public directory due to caching. Wait 5 minutes and refresh. If it's still not visible after 15 minutes, write to us with the listing name; we'll check the indexing.

I can't find a listing I saw yesterday

Two possibilities:

  • The listing was removed by its owner (sold, expired, or taken down). This is normal.
  • The listing was removed by us because it violated guidelines. We don't notify residents who saw a listing that gets removed, only the poster.

If you really need to reach the seller and the listing is gone, write to us. We can sometimes connect you, depending on the circumstances.

The Hebrew translation looks wrong / the English version is missing something

Both languages are maintained by hand. Sometimes a phrase gets translated awkwardly, or a new feature ships in one language ahead of the other. If you see something off, write to us with the page URL and what looks wrong, we fix translation issues quickly.

I think I found a bug

Write to us. Include:

  • What you were trying to do.
  • What happened instead.
  • What browser or device you're using.
  • A screenshot if possible.

Bug reports are genuinely useful. We can't fix what we don't know about, and the residents who write in with clear bug reports save the rest of the community from the same issue. Thank you in advance.
