Most marketplace posts are exactly what they seem: a neighbor selling something they no longer need. The rules below exist for the small minority of posts that don't belong, and to make clear what we'll remove if it gets reported.
What you can't post
- Counterfeit goods. Fake brand items, knockoff designer goods, pirated software or media.
- Stolen items. If we get reports suggesting a listing is for stolen property, we remove it and may notify authorities.
- Restricted or controlled items. Weapons, ammunition, prescription medications, drug paraphernalia, alcohol or tobacco for resale, anything regulated by law.
- Live animals. Pet rehoming or animal sales should go through proper rescue or sale channels, not through the second-hand marketplace. Pet supplies and equipment are fine.
- Adult content. The marketplace isn't the place for it.
- Dangerous items. Items that pose a safety risk, recalled products, expired car seats or cribs, items with known defects that haven't been disclosed.
- Services or commercial work. If you're offering a service for pay (lessons, cleaning, repair work), that's a business listing, not a marketplace post.
- Real estate or vehicles. These have dedicated sections with their own posting flow.
- Promotional spam. Posts that exist to drive traffic to an external store, MLM scheme, or affiliate link.
Beyond the explicit list, the underlying rule is simple: the marketplace is for neighbors selling or giving away things they no longer need. Anything that fits that frame is welcome. Anything that doesn't probably isn't.
What we expect from posters
- Honest descriptions. Don't claim "perfect condition" if there's damage you haven't disclosed. Don't claim "barely used" if it was used heavily. Honesty is the baseline.
- Real photos. Photos of the actual item, not stock photos pulled from the manufacturer's website.
- Reasonable prices. The marketplace doesn't enforce price limits, but residents will downvote (and report) listings that are clearly priced for tourists or fishing for the unaware.
- Responsiveness. If you list something, respond to inquiries. If you've sold it, mark it as sold or remove the listing.
- One listing per item. Don't repost the same item three times to push it to the top of the feed. Use the renew flow when your listing is about to expire.
How to report a problem
Every listing has a report button. When you click it, you can choose a reason:
- Misleading or inaccurate description
- Item doesn't match the photos
- Suspected counterfeit
- Suspected stolen
- Restricted item
- Spam or promotional
- Safety concern
- Other (with a free-text field)
Reports go to the platform team. We review every report. Most reports are resolved within a few hours, often faster.
What happens after a report
It depends on the report:
- If the listing clearly violates the rules, we remove it and notify the poster.
- If the report is borderline, we may write to the poster asking them to clarify or correct the listing.
- If the report is unfounded (which happens, sometimes residents disagree about what counts as "misleading"), we leave the listing up and move on.
- If a poster has multiple legitimate reports against them over time, we may suspend their ability to post in the marketplace.
We don't share the identity of the reporter with the poster. Reports are confidential.
What happens if your post is removed
If we remove one of your posts, we'll send you an email explaining why. In most cases, the issue is fixable, the description was unclear, the item is in the wrong category, the photos were misleading, and you can revise and repost.
If you think we removed something in error, write to us. We're not infallible, and we'll review the case.
One last thing
The marketplace works because residents act in good faith and trust their neighbors to do the same. The rules above are mostly there for the rare case when that doesn't happen. The actual culture of the marketplace, what most residents experience, is honest sellers, fair prices, friendly pickups, and the occasional pleasant surprise. Let's keep it that way.
