Posting a volunteer call

Whether you need help with a community project, a one-time effort, or an ongoing volunteer role, you can post a volunteer call. It's free, and the community responds.

If you're organizing something that needs volunteers, you can post a call here. Volunteer calls are free for residents.

What counts as a volunteer call

Any request for help that's community-oriented and not commercial. A few examples:

  • A clean-up day at the park
  • A holiday food drive or charity collection
  • Help packing care packages for soldiers or evacuees
  • Volunteers to staff a community event or fair
  • An ongoing role with a local charity, school, or community institution
  • Help for an elderly neighbor (gardening, errands, company)

Volunteer calls are not for paid work or for-profit recruiting. If you're hiring, that's a business listing or a deal, not a volunteer call.

To post a volunteer call:

  1. Sign in.
  2. From your dashboard, click Add a Volunteer Call.
  3. Write a clear title that says what you need.
  4. Describe what's involved: when, where, for how long, what skills (if any) are needed.
  5. Add contact info for residents who want to sign up or ask questions.
  6. Submit. Your post goes to a brief review.

Review and approval

Like events, volunteer calls go through a quick manual review. We're checking that the request is genuine, community-oriented, and meets our guidelines. Most posts are approved within a few hours.

How long the post stays up

Volunteer calls automatically expire after 30 days. If you still need volunteers after that, you can repost or extend the call. The reason for the limit is simple: stale calls (asking for volunteers for an event that already happened, or for a project that's been completed) clutter the page and frustrate residents who want to help.

If your call is for an ongoing role with no end date, mention that in the description. We can extend the post manually if it's clearly a long-running need.

Closing a call early

Once you have enough volunteers, please mark your call as filled or remove it. This is a small thing that makes a real difference: residents who want to help are looking for places where they're actually needed.

Saying thank you

If you ran a successful volunteer effort, consider posting a brief thank-you in the community notices feed afterward. Acknowledging the volunteers who showed up is one of the things that keeps the community engaged.
