Deleting your account

You can delete your account anytime from settings. Here's what gets removed, what stays, and how to do it.

If you've decided you no longer want an account on oranit.community, you can delete it yourself, no need to email anyone.

How to delete your account

  1. Sign in.
  2. Go to Settings → Privacy.
  3. Scroll to Delete account.
  4. Read the summary of what will happen.
  5. Type your email to confirm and click Delete my account.
  6. You'll be signed out immediately. Your account is queued for deletion.

What happens when you delete

Within 24 hours of confirmation, the following are removed:

  • Your sign-in credentials (email, password, phone). You can no longer sign in.
  • Your profile (display name, photo, bio).
  • Your saved searches, notification preferences, and any draft posts you hadn't published.
  • Your active marketplace posts and any wanted/help requests you posted.
  • Your active community event posts and volunteer calls (if they're future events, attendees will be notified).

The following are not removed, with reasons:

  • Past invoices and payment records. Israeli accounting regulations require us to retain these for seven years. They're stored separately from your active account, accessible only to our accounting and to authorities if legally required.
  • Active business listings tied to your account. Business listings can be transferred or kept up depending on circumstance, see below.
  • Active real-estate or vehicle listings. If you've paid for an active listing and the post hasn't expired, we don't automatically remove it on account deletion. You can take it down before deleting your account, or write to us afterward to remove it.
  • Comments, reviews, and replies you left on other content. These remain visible but with your name replaced by "Former resident" so the conversation thread stays coherent.

If you have a business listing

If your account owns a business listing, you have a few options before deleting:

  • Transfer the listing to another account holder. If your business has another owner or an employee with their own account, we can move the listing to them. Write to us before deleting your account.
  • Keep the listing and unlink it from your account. The listing stays live, becomes "unclaimed" again, and another owner can claim it later.
  • Take the listing down entirely. Delete the business listing from its dashboard before deleting your account.

If you delete your account without choosing one of these, we treat the listing as unclaimed by default; it stays visible but no one can edit it until claimed.

If you have an active paid plan or paid post

Active business plans, real-estate posts, and vehicle posts continue running until they expire, even after account deletion. Renewal reminders won't be sent (because there's no account to send them to). The post comes down at expiry as usual.

We don't refund unused time on a plan or post when you delete your account. The reasoning is the same as the standard refund policy: payment processing fees and operational costs are spent regardless of how long you actually use the service.

Can I undo this?

Within the first 24 hours after confirming, yes. Write to us, and we can cancel the deletion if you've changed your mind.

After 24 hours, the deletion is permanent. We can't restore your profile, sign-in, or non-financial data. You can sign up again as a new user, but it will be a fresh account, no history, no saved searches, no past listings.

An alternative: pausing instead

If you're considering deletion because you're getting too many emails, or because you're not sure you want to come back, consider just turning off notifications instead. Settings → Notifications → turn everything off. Your account stays, but you stop hearing from us. You can come back when you're ready.

We mention this not to talk you out of deleting (we don't take it personally), but because we'd rather you do whichever thing actually fits your situation. If you genuinely want out, delete. If you just want quiet, the off switch is easier.
